Kinja'd!!!

I am trying to clean up my upstairs living room TV area. This is my “nice” living room so my wife won’t let me go for a 7.2 surround sound and projector. I currently have a 55" inch TV/Vizio Soundbar/Sub setting on a cabinet from Ikea and a cable box below it. I was hoping to buy an A/V receiver and put it off to the side and mount the TV on the wall. My goal was to have one cable plus power to the TV and that the cables are obviously hidden behind drywall.

I want to hook my cable box, apple TV and other stuff to the AV receiver off to the side and hidden in a box or something. What do you guys recommend. I was hoping for a CHEAP AV receiver but i don’t know if it will work with my current sound bar, and I really don’t want to get a new $800 soundbar that works with a receiver. I really just want the receiver as a hub to clean everything up, quality isn’t the issue it is aesthetics. Do you guys have any other ideas?

Have a Fiat Dino, picture related because aesthetics

do you just need a way to switch HDMI inputs?

I don’t understand why you need anything beyond the sound bar if you arent “allowed” to put a 7.1 system in there anyway... (have you broached the idea of in-wall speakers?)

I have an onkyo hdmi receiver that does what your want. I’m sure you can pick one up for a reasonable amount. I prefer to buy new because modern electronics don’t seen to hold up like they used to.

Hm, The switching HDMI is what I’m most interested in. If I can get an HDMI switch with a few more features, like maybe Logitech Harmony capability, I may bite. That would be significantly cheaper and fill 95% of the functionality I want really.

If you get a CEC compatible HDMI switch you shouldn’t need any harmony crap. You can also get cable hiding devices that you can paint to match wall.Like in this terrible picture:

the linked HDMI switch has an IR remote, so Harmony’s learning capability should have you covered, or as Shiro noted, a CEC compatible device wouldn’t even “need” that (however I find CEC switching to kinda be a PITA)

off topic a bit but, I was thinking of making a replica of this car. miata, rebodied, alfa 3.0 v-6? what do you think?

I think it would be absolutely beautiful. But I think it would be a heck of a lot cheaper and easier to find a ratted out shell and drop in an engine. Anything attached to Ferrari is going sky high, but custom bodies normally only make sense on million dollar plus cars.
